I never was much of a 'cat person' before JuJu entered my life. My Jim (then boyfriend - now husband) one day said "There's a little black cat I keep seeing in the yard, come see." I came out to see this black cat - not a kitten, but not a cat either - hiding in our garden. I admit, I wasn't much impressed at first. We tried to call her over, but she was too afraid. Well, later that evening, as we were cleaning up from celebrating Jim's birthday, we heard this "MEOW!" at the back door. And there she was - now I was able to see her and hear her and I fell in love. She had smelled the fish we had for dinner and was saying "I'm hungry - Please can I have some?" Well, I only gave her some milk since we didn't have any cat food and she lapped it up. I said to Jim "Oh, can we keep her?!" He sat down and discussed why we couldn't - I was HORRIBLY allergic to cats - not just the sneezing and red eyes, but I would get to the point where my lungs would shut down and breathing was impossible! I gave some suggestions on how she could be our "outside cat" (at this time in my life, I obviously was not educated on the safety of keeping your cats indoors). Well, the next day I ended up staying home sick from work, Jim called to check on me and asked if the cat came back, I sadly responded NO - just as I said that I heard that familiar "MEOW!" SHE WAS BACK! SHE WAS BACK! I was so excited! Even though I was ill, I ran to the closest store and bought her some cat food, a bowl, and yes, even a collar with a bell. She gobbled down her new food, but would not really let me get close to her. I saw how frail she looked and said "You poor thing, you are just like the black JuJu bees that no one wants, and in the movie theatre, they get tossed on the floor and stuck to someone's shoe-you are a little black JuJu bee." So her name became JuJu-but in contrary I LOVE BLACK JUJU BEES unlike most people!

Over the next few months the following happened: A 'dogloo' was purchased so JuJu would have somewhere to sleep in on our back porch-it was big enough for about 5 JuJu's!! Next, JuJu's dogloo was brought into the garage, which was heated and supplied with a litter box, scratching post, food bowl and toys. She would then sleep in the garage at night because other neighborhood cats where invading her dogloo while it was outside. Then someone at my work informed me of this great product "OUTRIGHT" (you can find out more about it on my PRODUCTS page) It is for people with allergies to cats. For about 3 weeks I rubbed it on JuJu and before you knew it - I was fine around her!!! During this 3 week period, JuJu would come into the house at night and let outside when we were at work. Before you knew it - she was inside all of the time! We used to then only let her out when we were outside so we could supervise her. She is an EXTREMEMLY good cat and would always listen to us, but this one day, we turned our backs for a few seconds and she jumped our back wall. We didn't know this at first, didn't know where she was! My heart raced and I called her and called her until I finally found her. Thank God she never went any further, she was just standing there next to some flowers on the other side of our wall. I scooped up my precious and she's never been out since - that scared me enough to learn she is safest indoors at all times. All it takes is a few seconds and they can be gone. She adjusted very well to being strictly indoors, at times I'm sure she would LIKE to be outside to get away from the other cats though! She really is vocal in letting them know of her displeasure with them. JuJu moans, groans, grunts and just makes the oddest sounds for such a little cat. She is my first love, my first baby, my first stray who captured my heart and taught me the true meaning of 'motherhood'. I love you JuJu, today, tomorrow and always!
