We should all be prepared in Emergency situations to help our cats, dogs or other animals that share our homes & our lives.
Emergencies can be medical, such as your cat choking or being injured. Emergencies can also be nature's rath of fire, tornados or hurricanes. Unfortunately our world has to now also prepare for such Emergencies as possibly evacuating your home in times of terroism or war.

What will become of your furbabies if by chance you
unexpectantly die? Below are some great, informative links I have found to help in any of these situations. I have also given information on the steps I have taken to protect and hopefully save my kitties if any Emergency
should arise in our home. I hope this page can help direct any visitors in steps they made need to take to do the same for their furbabies.

Tips on what to do Before, During and After a disaster strikes
I put together a 'disaster/evacuation kit' for my kids after the September 11, 2001 attack on America. I received an e-mail from Kelly at Cat Claws (great cat shopping site!) who informed her shoppers she had done this and she gave me some wonderful ideas!
Besides each kitty having their very own cat carrier, I took a medium size rubbermaid bin and filled it with the following so in case we need to leave our home quickly, all I would have to do is grab this bin & all their 'cat stuff' is safely inside!
I have a folder inside with copies of all the kids medical records & photocopied pictures of each cat, just in case, God forbid they were to get separated from me. I have a paper with phone #'s for their Vet, Local Emergency Animal Hospital and the National Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435). I then have a print out of "Animal Friendly" hotels in our state in the event we would have to evacuate our home.
Other Contents:
Eye wash
Ear wash
Ear medication (sometimes Taffy requires this creme based medicine)
3% hydrogen peroxide
cloth tape
gauze bandage wraps
round-tipped scissors
tweezers
swabs
rectal thermometer
vaseline (for thermometer ease)
1st aid ointment
tongue depressor
gauze pads (to use as pressure if bleeding)
Malt (for hairballs)
small flashlite & batteries
litter
scoop
small litter box & mat
styrofoam bowls for food & water
bottled water
enough dry food for 3 weeks
some toys
I've also placed in our Master bedroom, which is on the 2nd floor, 4 empty pillowcases. This would be in the event I needed to escape from the 2nd floor with any of the kitties. Their cat carriers are located in our storage area on the 1st floor. With the pillowcases, I would put a cat in it and secure it with a rubberband until we can get to safety.
SHOULD YOU PASS ON......

FAQ on preparing for unexpected situations, long term pet care, wills, trusts, etc. This site suggests creating a notice on a door in your home with ER numbers and important pet info. that would be seen by anyone coming to your home in the event you die or become incapacitated.

MAKE SURE YOUR BABY WILL BE CARED FOR......
This is where I found out originally about having a 'Wallet ID' card on each of my cats. A great idea if by chance you are in a car accident for example. By having this in your wallet, police will know you have furbabies at home that require care.
