Above is the ornament I received from Best Friends Animal Society after signing up to sponsor a needy animal. The ornament states Best Friends goal: "No More Homeless Pets".
Below is the handsome Oscar I first received to sponsor! Isn't he stunning?
My sponsorship will help provide loving care, food and comfort to a needy animal, like Oscar & the others I was so lucky to get! I'm their new 'Best Friend'! Click on Oscar to visit WildCat Village (now 'Cat World') , where he lives. For a mere $25 a year (like $0.48 a week!) you too can become a sponsor to a needy animal at the santuary!
Oscar the cat considers himself an international celebrity. This big, handsome kitty was turning into something of a diplomatic disaster at his home in Saudi Arabia because he attacked everyone, including his own person. With nowhere else to put him, his family asked if they could fly him to Best Friends. He took up residence at the WildCats Village where he rules supreme over 15 other kitties who consider him their benign dictator. With no one to challenge his authority, and with a nice girl friend called Heidi, Oscar has mellowed very considerably. You can even pick him up when you come to visit him. (Just don't touch his toys!)
When I got Baroness she was a 12 year old Lab mix. She came to the sanctuary as a stray, when she was a year old. She was very frightened of people and is still quite shy, but she loves being with other dogs. She went to a new home once, but was too shy to adapt well. So she came back to the sanctuary and lived at the "Dogtown" with the people she knows and loves. Click on her to see "Dogtown". Sadly I received a notice on 8/21/02 that Baroness passed away. My sponsorship was then transferred to the doggie below.
Sarge, was a 9 year old lab mix when he came to me. He was an escape artist & was having a hard time finding a suitable home when he was living at a shelter in Minnesota. At Best Friends he can check out the grass on the other side of the fence as much as he likes! He has a girlfriend, Queenie and he's a very sweet and strong dog. He loves people almost as much as he loves Queenie! With a heavy heart, I received a letter on 2/25/03 that Sarge went to the Rainbow Bridge. I'm sure there, the grass is the greenest he's ever seen! My sponsorship was then transferred to the big guy below.
Ashokan, came to Best Friends from New York under a court order . This young Rottweiler can't be placed in a home with a family, but he's very happy living with his girlfriend, Sasha at "Dogtown". He gets along with most other dogs, and people. His favorite treat: Sitting on your lap! Both Ashokan and his girlfriend, Sasha have a special job: teaching abused & abandoned newcomers how to get over their past & start a new life! Next for my sponsorship was the pretty kitty below.
Ambika had been living in a parking garage and ran into trouble when there were complaints to the building manager of pawprint marks on the cars. Ambika came to Best Friends to live and is happily there living with another group of kitties. Although she started out feral, she has come around and will give a few lucky people quick pets and rubs.
